Hurricane Maria, the tenth worst Atlantic hurricane recorded, started out as a tropical wave and turned into a hurricane on September 16, 2017 and dissipated October 12, 2017. It turned into an extratropical on September 30, 2017. Extratropical storms are cyclonic storms that are not tropical cyclones. The hurricane hit Puerto Rico, Dominica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and more. It came towards the Caribbean Sea as a category 5 hurricane, but weakened to a category 4 when it came in interaction with Dominica. It quickly turned back into a category 5 hurricane, though. There were a total of 112 deaths because of the storm. More than 91.6 billion dollars of damage have been done, 90 billion being done in Puerto Rico and the USVI.
