Hurricane Marilyn: 1995

Hurricane Marilyn was a tropical storm that was formed September 12 and dissipated September 30. This hurricane affected Puerto Rico, Barbados, Bermuda, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Leeward Islands. Marilyn was responsible for the death of thirteen people and left more than eleven thousand homeless. The damage from this hurricane cost more than $2 billion dollars.

On September 14, Hurricane Marilyn struck the Lesser Antilles at a category 100 strength. Marilyn impacted the U.S. Virgin Islands on September 15 at a strong category 2 strength with the center over St. Thomas. This was the strongest hurricane to hit the Virgin Islands since Hurricane Hugo (1989). After passing over Puerto Rico on september 16 at a category 3 strength, Hurricane Marilyn went back to the Atlantic Ocean on september 16 and started to weaken. Marilyn passed by Bermuda on september 19. Later on, this hurricane stayed over the Atlantic Ocean for 10 day before dissipating.
