Yellow Cedar

Cupressus nootkatensis

Yellow Cedar

Ever since 1934, the beautiful yellow cedar has been the official territory flower of the USVI! Native to the Americas, the USVI’s yellow cedar flower typically blossoms year-round on large bushes. This flower has a beautiful fragrance to match its looks that attracts many insects and hummingbirds. The plant’s wood is used for construction, and drinking a concoction that includes its leaves and root can help to treat diabetes, stomach pain, syphilis, and more. Yellow cedars can become an invasive plant if growing near empty spaces that they can take advantage of, so be careful where you plant your seeds!
