Papaya
Carica papaya
Papayas are large, pear-shaped fruits that grow in tropical areas. They have a green-yellow skin and soft, bright orange flesh. Papayas have long, ovular-shaped pits that contain numerous seeds, which are edible, albeit bitter. Native to Mexico, papayas are very nutritious, being rich in many vitamins, such as Vitamin C. Papayas actually have over 200% of your recommended daily dose of Vitamin C! Eating papaya may lower your risk of developing asthma, cancer, heart disease, and even more. Be careful if you have a latex allergy, because papayas share proteins that are also found in latex.
