Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants with hundreds of species that grow best in tropical climates. The plants’ flowers can grow in bunches or singularly, and many die after only one day, depending on the species. The trumpet-shaped flowers are about 5 inches in diameter, and can be many vibrant colors, with flowers usually being multiple colors at once! Native to Asia and the Pacific Islands, hibiscus were used in Africa and Jamaica to shine shoes, giving this plant the nickname “shoe flower.” Another good use of hibiscus is its tea, which can be made by steeping dry petals in water. Hibiscus tea is rich in antioxidants and fights bacteria and inflammation.
