Flamboyant

The royal poinciana, or flamboyant, is a tree that blooms orange-red flowers. Indigenous to Madagascar, and found in places with tropical climates, this tree is thought to bring inspiration and confidence. Along with its flowers, flamboyant trees also produce these hard, flat, brown pods that can grow to be over a foot long. The seeds inside the pod create a noise when the pod is shaken, similar to that of maracas. These pods are used as a percussion instrument called a “shack-shack” in the Caribbean.
