Cotton
Gossypium
Cotton itself is technically not its own plant, but rather a soft and fluffy fiber that grows around the seeds of plants in the genus Gossypium. Cotton is very popularly used to create a soft fabric, and the first recorded production of cotton occurred in India around 10,000 years ago! Cotton itself is not edible, but cottonseeds are, but they are toxic to many animals, including humans. An oil can be extracted from the cottonseeds, which is very helpful for lowering high blood and cholesterol levels.
